We Are... The Nashville Penn Staters
HELLO NASHVILLE NITTANY NATION!
Nashville Penn Staters—long time, no chat. We know 2020 hasn’t been what any of us had expected, but we sincerely hope that you have been able to make the best of this time thus far. With all the craziness, we are thrilled to share some GOOD NEWS! PENN STATE FOOTBALL IS BACK! Starting Saturday October 24, the Nittany Lions will play an 8-game season followed by the East vs. West B1G 10 Championship.
However, even with the B1G 10 heading back to the turf, per the Penn State Alumni Association’s recommendations and with an abundance of caution, the Nashville Penn Staters will not be hosting any in-person viewing parties. We are just as bummed as you are, but everyone’s health and safety take top priority. That being said, we still want your engagement this football season! Follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and show us your Blue & White spirit on game days, and where you’re watching from. We might not be together physically, but virtually we can still have a party, and support our Nittany Lions!
Although we are not having viewing parties this year, we hope you will consider joining/renewing your individual or joint membership. With consideration for the hardships this year has caused, starting October 1, 2020 our membership prices will be decreased to:
- $25.00 for joint memberships
- $15.00 for individual memberships
Why should I renew?
Where will my membership cost be going?
With the loss of viewing parties this year, membership costs will be going to raise money for the funds and charities we support throughout the year, normally funded by donations from those viewing parties:
Each year, our alumni chapter awards a scholarship ($1,000 - $1,500) to a deserving student(s) in the middle Tennessee area. Through the generous donations collected last year, we were able to award scholarships to two local students as they headed back to Penn State this fall. Further donations can be made on our website if you would like to contribute towards the 2021 scholarship fund.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN
For over 5 years we have supported and worked with our local Second Harvest Food Bank by collecting canned goods at all of our in-person events, as well as hosting a volunteer gathering twice a year to process and package donated items at their distribution center.
Since we won’t be able to collect canned goods, or physically volunteer this year, we will be having an online drive to raise money for the Food Bank. Please see our social media, and future emails for further details about this drive.
Penn State THON
THON’s Virtual 5k is approaching quickly on October 11. You are welcome to participate in the race and choose the Nashville Penn Staters as the organization for which you are running (click here to join our team as a runner). To donate to the Nashville Penn Staters group and help us reach our goal, please donate here. And, if you do run/participate please share your photos with us on social media!
Other ways to donate to THON and receive some Nashville Penn Stater swag in return: we sell baseball caps with 10% of the purchase going to THON, and NPSU THON bracelets where all proceeds go to THON! Visit our shop!
As a final bit of news, our chapter now has an Amazon Smiles link! So, if you shop on Amazon, a portion of eligible purchases will be donated to our chapter. Click here and help support our chapter!
For the Glory,
Middle TN Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association
